Get Outside

Love the outdoors? So do we! To make sure the outside is accessible to all students we have year round activities* you can take part in for free. See the list below of the current outdoor activities you can access with your Bengal ID Card.

Canoes and Kayaks

UMFK:
Students can reserve canoes and kayaks at the UMFK Sports Center with either the Director of Athletics or the Manager of the Sports Center. Students are responsible to arranging their own means of transport.

Frisbee Golf

Fort Kent Outdoor Center (FKOC):
The FKOC has an 18 hole course that students can play on during the summer and early fall term.

Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding

Lonesome Pines Ski Trails:
During the Spring semester, students can downhill ski or snowboard at Lonesome Pines Ski Trails. During Spring 2021, students with the current Semester Term Sticker on their Bengal Badge will get free rentals and lift passes.

Spring 2021 Hours of Operation

  • Wednesday: 3:00 PM-9:00 PM
  • Friday: 3:00 PM-9:00 PM

Cross Country Skiing

Fort Kent Outdoor Center (FKOC):
Students must check out a FKOC pass at the Student Affairs Office during regular operation hours (Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM) to gain free access to the FKOC and their recreational activities. Passes can be checked out for one week at a time.

Once a student has checked out a pass:

  • Students who own their own cross country skis can access the FKOC seven days a week with a FKOC pass.
  • Students who do not have their own cross country skis can rent skis for free at the FKOC rental office every Saturday and Sunday with a FKOC Pass.

Ice Skating

Jalbert Park:
During the Spring semester, students can ice skate for free at Jalbert Park. The Jalbert Park Skating Rink does close for bad weather or poor ice conditions. Before you visit you can call (207) 834-5773 to confirm if the Jalbert Rink is open.

Spring 2021 Hours of Operation

  • Friday: 6:00 PM-9:00 PM
  • Saturday: 1:00 PM-4:00 PM & 6:00 PM-9:00 PM
  • Sunday: 1:00 PM-4:00 PM

Snowshoes

UMFK:
UMFK Sports Center have a limited amount of snowshoes that can be checked out. Students can reserve the snowshoes with the Director of Athletics or the Manager of the Sports Center.

Jalbert Park:
During the Spring semester, students can rent snowshoes for free at Jalbert Park. The Jalbert Park Skating Rink does close for bad weather or poor ice conditions. Before you visit you can call (207) 834-5773 to confirm if the Jalbert Rink is open.

Spring 2021 Hours of Operation

  • Monday-Thursday: 9:00 AM-3:00 PM
  • Friday: 6:00 PM-9:00 PM
  • Saturday: 1:00 PM-4:00 PM & 6:00 PM-9:00 PM
  • Sunday: 1:00 PM-4:00 PM
