Bengal Life Awards

The Bengal Life Awards are presented each year to recognize individual students, faculty, and staff who demonstrate outstanding service and who make significant contributions to UMFK and to the Fort Kent community.

Who is eligible for these awards?

  • Any full-time or part-time UMFK student may be nominated for a student award.
  • Any faculty or staff, regardless of classification (hourly, salaried, tenured, adjunct, etc.), may be nominated for a faculty or staff award.

What are the nomination criteria?

  • Nominees are evaluated on ways they perform above and beyond expectations in the criteria listed below each award.

How to submit a nomination?

  • Nominations open each year in early March. The 2021 Bengal Award Nominations may be submitted via the 2021 Bengal Life Award Nomination Form. The deadline to submit nominations is 11:59 PM on March 28, 2021.

Award Categories

Civic Engagement & Involvement Award

This award recognizes a student who has demonstrated a strong desire to give back to and serve their community through projects on and off campus that are not connected to a class or a UMFK student employment obligation.

UMFK Rising Star Award

This award recognizes an underclassman who demonstrates great potential for leadership and service. Nominees should possess a willingness to enhance their skills and a desire to impact their communities.

UMFK Spirit Award

This award recognizes a student, staff, and/or faculty who love being a UMFK Bengal. They may be seen supporting UMFK athletic teams, making others feel welcome at UMFK, and/or having great pride and passion for UMFK.

UMFK Unsung Hero Awards

This award is given to a student, staff, and/or faculty who exemplifies a commitment to excellence and has positively influenced a program or organization from behind the scenes with a positive attitude, a willingness to help in whatever capacity necessary and inspired others through their commitment and hard work. They have made significant sacrifices and contributions in one or more of the following ways:

  • Mentoring, training, and educating.
  • Demonstrates altruism, empathy, and commitment that supports their organization, department, and/or UMFK's best interest.
  • The “Go-to-person” who does the little things to get the job done right.
  • Offers help outside of their workplace and does so voluntarily with no financial reward.

Outstanding Student Leader Award

This award recognizes a student who has made significant contributions to the campus and/or surrounding communities through their dedicated leadership and involvement.

Student Organization of the Year Award

This award is presented to an organization that has made a significant effort to further its purpose through its contributions to UMFK and the Fort Kent community. This organization demonstrates consistent flexibility, initiative, creativity, and perseverance. Furthermore, the organization embodies the UMFK spirit through its commitment to leadership development, collaboration among groups, and programmatic efforts to enhance the quality of campus life at UMFK. The Student Organization of the Year is considered a role model for other organizations on our campus.

Student Organization Advisor of the Year Award

This award is presented to an advisor of a student organization who has demonstrated outstanding contributions. This person has had a profound impact on a student organization by providing a welcoming, inclusive, and enthusiastic environment. The advisor positively influences the student organization, both the individuals and the group, to achieve their goals and mission.
