"Welcome to the World of Anime!" exhibit on display at the UMFK Blake Library Gallery

The University of Maine at Fort Kent Blake Library Gallery will feature “Welcome to the World of Anime!” an exhibit by the UMFK student Anime Club. The exhibit will be on display from Monday, October 31 through the end of November.

The exhibit will showcase various aspects of Japanese culture especially that associated with anime, manga, and traditional Japanese items through club member art work, posters, photography, costumes, and more.

The members who started the club did so because they were inspired by the Japanese form of entertainment known as ‘anime,’ and wanted to show the UMFK community what their club was about.

According to the Merrian-Webster dictionary online at http://www.merriam-webster.com/, Anime is "a style of animation originating in Japan that is characterized by stark colorful graphics depicting vibrant characters in action-filled plots often with fantastic or futuristic themes."

President of the Anime Club Shelagh Van Anglen said, "Japanese culture is full of rich history and traditions that can be enjoyed, and anime is a unique style of art that anyone can find some sort of enjoyment from."

The UMFK Anime Club is an organization that started in fall 2014. The club has grown across the last two years, and hopes to continue to grow. The Anime Club is a great way for students to share their enjoyment of anime, and club members hope to bring more awareness to their club as well as a better understanding of what anime is.

As Ms. Van Anglen said, "We hope the campus and community will recognize what we do as a club and can enjoy what we’ve brought for everyone through this exhibit."
