UMFK is "StormReady"

The National Weather Service (NWS) has deemed the University of Maine at Fort Kent as "StormReady."

On November 5, Timothy Duda, meteorologist of the local NWS in Caribou, presented to the UMFK Emergency Management Team a StormReady Supporter Certificate dated and signed along with a reflective “We are StormReady” road sign for the campus.

The StormReady program helps communities to better prepare for weather related emergencies.

The University of Maine has met all the requirements to become a StormReady community, and by doing so, affirms its commitment not only to the UMFK campus, but to the community of Fort Kent.

Duda notes, “In order to be recognized as StormReady, a community must meet requirements based on the community's population. Some of these requirements include having a means to monitor weather conditions and receive hazardous weather information; holding weather safety seminars; and having an emergency action plan in the event of weather related emergencies.

UMFK is the third campus to attain StormReady recognition in the state of Maine and in the University Maine System.
