UMFK TO INDUCT FOUR INTO ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME

The University of Maine at Fort Kent Athletic Hall of Fame will induct four new members at a dinner and induction ceremony on Saturday, March 23 beginning at 5 p.m. in the UMFK Sports Center.

The Hall of Fame Selection Committee announced the Class of 2013 Hall of Fame inductees during the campus' Homecoming Weekend last September. The honorees span 94 years of UMFK's 134-year history. The inductees are:

James “Pop” Hoyt ‘17

Hoyt is recognized in the Builder/Administrator category. A 1917 graduate of the (then) Madawaska Training School, “Pop” Hoyt was a long-time friend to UMFK and its athletic department. He is described as the “right-hand man” to long-time coach and athletic director, Lowell “Ozzie” Osgood (HOF'08). Hoyt always was ready to assist student/athletes with their housing and transportation needs. He was a valuable asset to the athletic department and an unwavering advocate of the University.

Dr. Melik Khoury ‘99

In the category of Player/Coach, the Hall will honor Melik Khoury, Class of 1999, for his efforts in men's soccer. Khoury was the goalkeeper for a very successful men's team during his undergraduate years at UMFK. He later translated that playing success to coaching. As the Bengal's soccer coach, he led his team to a Sunrise Conference Championship and several Potato Barrel championships over cross-county rival, UMPI.

Ashley Ames ‘10

For her success on both the basketball and volleyball courts, UMFK will induct Ashley Ames into the Hall. A 2010 graduate, Ashley set school basketball records in scoring, rebounding and block shots during a three-year career at UMFK. Following her basketball career, Ashley proved herself to be equally-adept at volleyball, earning Sunrise Conference and all-New England honors. Ashley twice was named as an academic All-American for her scholarly work.

Barrington Blake ‘11

Barrington Blake, Class of 2011, was named three times to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-American teams as a defender during his four-year career in men's soccer. Barry led his team to four Sunrise Conference Championships; to a NAIA “Elite 8” finish; and to a 2010 USCAA national championship. During his tenure, Barry's Bengal teams posted an overall record of 80 wins, four losses, and three ties.

The UMFK Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 2008 to recognize the men and women who have distinguished themselves in athletic competition, in the classroom, after graduation, or by their meritorious service on behalf of UMFK athletics.
