Looking for participants for upcoming Renaissance Faire

The University of Maine at Fort Kent community Medieval Club, the UMFK Student Activities, and the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. are looking for participants for the upcoming Acadian Beginnings Village Renaissance Faire to be held Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Crocker Beach, located on the University campus.

The Renaissance Faire will be held in conjunction with the World Acadian Congress, the Fort Kent Ploye Festival, and International Muskie Derby.

The Renaissance Faire is planned to be a 'reenactment' of an early 17th century French country fair at the time when the Acadians migrated from central coastal France to the Maine coast. The reenactment will be done by Twin Riverswood, a historic re-enactment group based in northern Maine.

The organizers are looking for participants such as:

· Traditional crafters and vendors – asked to wear early 17th century garb, please (fee for space is $5, tables available for $5 and reservations required)

· Early period musicians, singers, dancers, jesters, and other entertainers

· Those willing to demonstrate traditional activities

· Teachers for classes on early arts and sciences: such as herbs, clothing, music, dance

· Supervisors/teachers for children's area activities: face painting, bead work, kite making and flying, games like ring-toss, sack racing

The fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 9. The site will open for participants on Friday evening (August 8) for set-ups, and the closing for Sunday evening (August 10). In case of rain, the fair will be held at UMFK's Nadeau Hall Teleconference Room.

Space also is available for campers: $5 a night (no open fires allowed). You may purchase lunch and/or a medieval feast planned for all participants and the general public. Further information will be available upon request for the menu for lunch and the evening feast.

Participants are asked to wear 17th century attire, or Acadian, for feast and/or vendors: for example: “peasant” blouse and long skirt; or “pirate” shirt with pantaloons.
