The University of Maine at Fort Kent will help this fall's college and university-bound students and their parents answer a seemingly complex question: “How do I complete the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA)?”

UMFK's Director of Financial Aid, Lisa Lipe, will be on site for St. John Valley's “FAME FAFSA Lab,” a statewide program, formally “College Goal Maine” that the Finance Authority of Maine sponsors. The session will occur at the St. John Valley Technical Center in Frenchville on Sunday, January 25 at 2 p.m. and will involve a line-by-line explanation of the FAFSA application and a question and answer session.

Students and parents should register on-line at: http://www.famemaine.com/files/StaticPages/Education/CollegeGoalMaine/Locations.aspx [link no longer available]

Please read the section located on the website, stating the list of documents that all students will need to bring with them. The organizers have designed the session to assist families with college-bound and college-aged students to work through the, at times overwhelming, FAFSA form, which the government requires for students to qualify for federal aid. The hands-on workshop will allow parents to complete the FAFSA during the two-hour session.

Now is the time to apply for financial aid for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year. If a s person is planning, or even thinking about, attending college next year, it's important they file the FAFSA early. UMFK is welcoming parents and students to attend.
