UMFK to host regional round for National Spelling Bee

The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host the Northern District (Aroostook County) Scripps National Spelling Bee competition for 6, 7, and 8 grade students on Friday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m. in Fox Auditorium.

The 2013 competition is sponsored by Maine School Administrative District #27, under the supervision of Ralph Caron, vice principal at Fort Kent Elementary School.

The winners of the Northern District spelling bee will continue on to the State of Maine competition. The state winners advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C. during the week of May 26 to June 1.

Dr. Jenny Radsma, UMFK Associate Professor of Nursing, will serve as bee master for the competition. Two UMFK students will serve as judges.

The spelling bee is free, and open to the public.
