Acadian Archives acadiennes director, Lise Pelletier, Presents at Acadian Days in Grand-Pré, Nova Scotia

Lise Pelletier, director of the Acadian Archives acadiennes of the University of Maine at Fort Kent, presented at a conference on the “Acadians of Maine” during Acadian Days in Grand-Pré, Nova Scotia, Canada, last month.

Grand-Pré is the site from where thousands of Acadians were deported to British colonies within the United States between 1755 and 1763.

Ms. Pelletier was part of the panel of experts who testified before the UNESCO judges in September 2011. In June 2012, UNESCO recognized Grand-Pré as a World Heritage Site: http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1404

Also presenting during the academic portion of the two-day Acadian Days festivities were Dr. Gregory Kennedy, professor of history at the University of Moncton; Gabriel LeBlanc, a noted researcher of Acadian history; and Dr. Jonathan Fowler, professor of archeology at Saint Mary's University. http://www.grand-pre.com/en/acadian-days-2012.html (link no longer available). 

The Acadian Archives/Archives Acadiennes at the University of Maine at Fort Kent documents, preserves, celebrates, and disseminates information about the culture, way of life, and history of the Franco-American and Acadian people of the Upper St John River Valley. A repository for manuscript materials and audio-visual documentation relevant to regional folklore, folk life, and history, the Archives serves the University community as well as individuals and organizations regionally, statewide, nationally, and internationally.
