UMFK to host reception to highlight Fort Kent Armory Renovations, Unveil Art Donation, and Honor Forestry Award Recipients

The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host a reception to highlight the Fort Kent Armory renovations, unveil art donation, and honor forestry award recipients on Wednesday, August 26 at 3 p.m. at the Fort Kent Armory building.

The reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

The reception will provide an opportunity for the public to see the newly renovated areas of the armory building which now houses UMFK Forestry program labs, classrooms, computer labs, and faculty offices.

The reception also will include an unveiling of a series of paintings titled “The Pictorial History of Maple Sugaring in Maine.” The five paintings, by Caribou artist Chester Gage, were generously donated by Ray and Sandy Gauvin of Mapleton, Maine. The paintings will be permanently on display in the Armory building.

In addition, UMFK forestry faculty will make a presentation to honor two UMFK Forest Technology program graduates who recently have been awarded the Graduate Forest Technology Award by the Council of Eastern Forest Technology Schools. Joseph Mints, a 1992 graduate, and Spencer Caron, a 2005 graduate, have both received this prestigious national award, which is given to forest technology program graduates who have “significantly contributed to forestry and forestry education.” Fewer than 60 individuals have received this award nationally since 1995.
