The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host a summer retreat for teachers using iPads in their grades K through 8 classrooms, Sunday, June 23 through Tuesday, June 25 on the UMFK campus.

The retreat is sponsored by EDUcadia, the St. John Valley Education Partnership.

The relaxing, casual, vacation-like retreat will include exciting, cutting-edge presentations by teachers, school technology staff, guest speakers, and educational administrators; all sharing their expertise and experiences in the use of iPads as an educational tool.

Everyone attending the retreat must have an iPad. Participants may bring their own, borrow one at the retreat, or purchase one as part of the registration cost (see registration information for details). An iPad in-hand is necessary, as iPadagogy is a hands-on retreat that will explore the many uses of iPads in an elementary and middle school setting.

“Technology is a crucial part of education in today's schools. I am pleased the collaborative work of members of EDUcadia has resulted in an exciting, cutting edge, state-wide conference for educators that will take place in our very own community,” says Scott Voisine, UMFK's dean of community education.

“iPadagogy promises to blend hands-on iPad teaching and learning methodologies with a fun and relaxing retreat for educators. It also will bring top-notch presenters, together with educators from our own local schools who use iPads in their classroom each day, who have a lot to share with their peers,” Voisine adds.

The registration fee for the retreat is $275, which includes meals. Additional costs will apply for those who require housing. iPad purchase discount options are available to registrants.

Participants who are part of a team of professionals attending from one school or organization should indicate that when registering. Teams of five or more will receive a discount on the price of each individual registrant. Each participant must individually complete a registration form online.

Teams or individuals working at an EDUcadia School (UMFK, MSAD 27, MSAD 33, MSAD 24, and Madawaska School Department) will receive a discount on retreat registration.
