Waneta T. Blake Visiting Professor Michael Downs to present on the UMFK campus

The University of Maine at Fort Kent's Arts and Humanities Division has selected author Michael Downs as the third Waneta T. Blake Visiting Professor.

Downs will present his work on Wednesday, April 24 at a public writing workshop in collaboration with UMFK students enrolled in ENG 340 Imaginative Writing course. The workshop will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Nadeau Hall Teleconference Room. Pre-registration is not required.

The workshop and presentation are free and the public is encouraged to attend.

Michael Downs will speak on his book “The Greatest Show” on Thursday, April 25 for a morning presentation for the UMFK campus community and an evening public presentation is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Nadeau Hall Teleconference Room.

“The Greatest Show,” a story collection inspired by the historic Hartford Circus Fire.

Michael Downs, born in Hartford, Connecticut, also is author of “House of Good Hope: A Promise for a Broken City,” which won the 2007 River Teeth Prize for Literary Nonfiction.

Mr. Downs has won literary fiction fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, and the Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Arts. He teaches creative writing at Towson University in Maryland.

Downs will be a featured author for The Aroostook Review's 2012 - 2013 issue.
