UMFK receives Grant from Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation to Enhance Safety

The University of Maine at Fort Kent is proud to announce they were recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation to purchase four new Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to place throughout campus.

“UMFK already had two AEDs in high-traffic areas, but we felt that due to the community presence throughout our campus, it was necessary to install these devices,” said Brian Schaefer, UMFK director of facilities management.

Four new Defibtech Lifeline Semi-Automatic AEDs with Responder Premium AED/CPR packs have been installed in special wall cabinets and are ready for immediate use by campus personnel. These defibrillators are equipped with special infant and child resuscitation materials as well as adult-sized pads.

“The existing AEDs were housed in the Sports Center and outside Fox Auditorium as those were the two areas most likely to be utilized by the public, but now we have units in the Armory, Nowland Hall, the Lodge, and outside the Acadian Archives,” said Schaefer. “We are grateful to the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation for this generous grant that will help us keep our community safe while on our campus.”
