UMFK Nursing Student Sarah Paradis Named a 2013 TYLENOL® Future Care Scholar

University of Maine nursing student, Sarah Paradis, has been named a 2013 TYLENOL® Future Care Scholar. The Frenchville, Maine native is one of just 40 students from across the United States to win the TYLENOL® Scholarship.

The makers of TYLENOL® award a total of $250,000 in scholarships to students pursuing degrees in healthcare, annually, to students who have chosen to pursue a career that's all about taking care of others.

Sarah is a sophomore at UMFK. In addition to her academic pursuits, she is a midfielder on the UMFK Women's soccer team, and was named an Academic All-American by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association during her first year. She is a graduate of Wisdom High School in St. Agatha where she excelled at soccer, winning the coaches award, won top female scholar-athlete honors, and was named the team's most valuable player.

“One reason why I am interested in the healthcare industry is because there are many jobs. Being a nurse means the doors are open for any field of interest. I love the fact that nursing can bring you anywhere,” said Sarah in a Tylenol Scholarship Program feature on Facebook.

“I have met so many wonderful nurses who work in total opposite roles. Being an army nurse, a jail nurse, a school nurse, just to name a few. Nursing has so many opportunities to anyone who is interested in helping others. It is comforting to know that I could work in one field of nursing and then switch to the next,” she added.

Now in its 23rd year, the TYLENOL® Future Care Scholarship Program helps students getting a healthcare-related education to manage the rising costs of education. Forty winners will receive awards of either $5,000 or $10,000. Any student who is pursuing a career in healthcare is eligible to apply.
