Canadian Artist Lynn Cyr Exhibit at the UMFK Blake Library Gallery

The University of Maine at Fort Kent's Blake Library will host an art exhibition entitled, “The Unstill Life,” by Canadian Artist Lynn Cyr through Monday, December 2, 2013.

“The Unstill Life” is a solo exhibit of Cyr's original oil paintings. In this exhibit, Lynn uses everyday objects and food to show us how dynamic and narrative a still life painting can be and where the interaction between these items become the story told. The exhibit aims to breathe life and personality into her paintings by using vibrant colors and strong lighting to make her subjects shine.

An opening reception will be scheduled on Friday, November 8, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. to meet and greet the artist. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

A native of St-Leonard, New Brunswick, Lynn likes to challenge herself by finding inspiration in different subjects. It could be a combination of colors and shadows seen reflected on a bowl of fruit, or the unique way she composes a design to make her simple subjects tell a story. But regardless of the subject, her work follows a consistent theme: color and light.

She started her career in graphic arts after moving to Massachusetts in 1996. Being an artist since childhood, she always knew she would pursue the arts in one form or another in her future.

In 2002, she rediscovered her passion for painting, and has been creating ever since. As a self-taught and award-winning artist, Lynn has participated in more than 30 group exhibits, as well as several solo exhibits, this one being her fourth.

Lynn's working studio and gallery is situated on Baker Lake in St-Jean-de-la-Lande, Quebec, on the borders of New Brunswick and Maine, and her paintings have been sold throughout the United States, Canada, and around the world.
