UMFK to offer defensive tactics courses

The University of Maine at Fort Kent will offer a basic introduction defensive tactics course on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Sports Center, room 118.

This one-credit course will consist of the discussion and application of defensive tactics techniques and will cover topics such as, situational awareness, improvised weapons, single man and team takedown, and restraint/cuffing techniques. Course also includes an introduction to basic self-defense and introduction to legal and ethical responsibilities when applying defensive tactics.

UMFK also will offer an advance defensive tactics course to be held on Monday evenings, starting October 28. The course will be held in the Sports Center, room118.

The two-credit course will cover the same material as the two-day introduction course, but in more detail, along with more hands-on practice.
