First Year Students at UMFK Help Raise Funds for NMMC Guild

Students in Loni Nadeau's First Year Experience (HUM 102) class at the University of Maine at Fort Kent recently raised more than $550 for the Northern Maine Medical Center Guild as part of the serving learning aspect of the course.

The students assisted the Guild in its annual Avon fundraiser, which raises monies to support a digital mammography machine for the hospital, as well as other ventures. The First Year Experience class is required of all new students at UMFK, and is designed to assist the students become academically and socially successful.

Students who participated in the project include: Jamie Reid (Glasgow, Scotland), Matthew Dunn (Dallas, Texas), Kyle Blake (Searsport, Maine) Emma Ashby (London, Ontario, Canada), Jessica Kozachuk (Sarnia, Ontario, Canada), Cole Porter( Sherman, Maine), Peter Pelletier (Lee, Maine), Jackie Embleton (Mars Hill, Maine), Chanelle Collin (Madawaska, Maine) Brittany Pelletier (Frenchville, Maine), and Aurora Jerkins (Frenchville, Maine).

The Northern Maine Medical Center Guild, originally known as the Hospital Ladies Guild, was organized prior to the grand opening of the medical center in August 1952. Since that time, the Guild has been extremely active in hospital affairs. Its contributions of volunteer time, money, equipment, and scholarships have given to the hospital over the past 61 years. The 55-member group is dedicated to raising and contributing money where there is a need to benefit the hospital and its affiliates.
