UMFK Selects New Head Women's Soccer Coach

Scott Fogarty new women's coach and sports center managerThe University of Maine at Fort Kent is pleased to announce the selection of their new head women’s soccer coach and Sports Center manager, Scott Fogarty.

“We had a great opportunity to bring in a full-time women’s soccer coach,” said UMFK Athletic Director, Garett Sherman. “We wanted someone who was a tireless, year-round recruiter, a tactician and most importantly had a track record of academic excellence within their soccer program. Scott checks all three of those boxes, as well as being a former All-American soccer player himself. He is already off to a great start with several recruits lined up to visit UMFK before he has even made it to campus. He is a tremendous addition to our athletic department, UMFK as a whole, and the Fort Kent community.”

Fogarty comes to Fort Kent from Central Christian College of Kansas in McPherson, Kansas. In his five seasons at the helm of Central Christian College, Fogarty led his team to the post season three times including a trip the NCCAA Final Four in 2015. During his time at Central Christian College Fogarty’s teams set a variety of school records including wins in a season, fewest losses in a season, winning percentage, goals scored, and fewest goals allowed.

“At UMFK, our focus is on transforming students into professionals and readying them for the workplace,” said UMFK President John Short. “Mr. Fogarty is as focused on excellence in academics as he is on excellence on the field. He is a wonderful addition to our campus.”

Under Fogarty, Central Christian produced five NCCAA All-Americans, 20 NCCAA All-Region, two NAIA All-Region, and 11 NAIA All-Conference recipients, including NAIA Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and Player of the Year. 

Fogarty also coached at Cairn University on the men’s side and ranks 3rd all-time in wins at that institution. Fogarty has received a number of coaching awards during his nine seasons as a college coach like winning the NCCAA All-Region Coach of the Year four times, Central Christian College Coach of the Year twice and one NAIA Conference Coach of the Year award.

Fogarty owns an NSCAA National Diploma, College Coach and Professional Development Certificate, Goalkeeper Level 1 License and USSF ‘D’ License, making him an incredibly versatile and experienced coach.

In Fogarty’s playing days, he starred at Cairn University where he was named First Team All-Conference in the North Eastern Athletic Conference and was a four-time NSCAA First Team All-American. He twice earned All-Tournament recognition at the NCCAA National Tournament. Following Fogarty’s senior campaign he was selected as the recipient for the Wayne C. Fink Award, an honor presented annually to the student-athlete that brings the highest level of regional and national attention to the athletic program of Cairn University. He was also voted Team MVP twice.

“I am very excited to be joining the UMFK family,” said Scott Fogarty. “I want to thank Garett Sherman and the search committee for giving me this opportunity. The women's soccer program has a very strong history and I'm looking forward to working with the ladies to challenging ourselves to new heights."
