UMFK Foundation Creates New Fund to Support Students

University of Maine at Fort Kent Foundation is excited to host a virtual fundraising event on May 15, 2020 at 8:00pm. The UMFK Cares Virtual Trivia Game will air on Facebook on May 15 on the UMFK Alumni Association and St. John Valley Live Facebook pages.

“The UMFK Foundation created a new fund, UMFK Cares, to help students who have been financially impacted during this pandemic,” said UMFK Foundation Officer, Shannon Lugdon. “The UMFK Alumni Association, Foundation Board of Directors, and the Board of Visitors invite you to watch this fun virtual trivia game hosted by St. John Valley Live.”

In this trivia event, St. John Valley locals will be competing against one another for the title of UMFK Cares Trivia Champion. There will be many opportunities to donate during the game, though one does not need to donate in order to watch the event.

The event is to raise monies for the UMFK Cares Fund. This Fund will provide assistance for housing, food, heating, travel, clothing, medical health, dental health, mental health or support for other emergency situations or basic needs for which UMFK students have no other source of funds.

“We have students who need assistance at all times, but with the recent situation with COVID-19 we have had a large increase in the number of students who are in need of financial resources to cover basic life needs,” said UMFK’s Dean of Students, Matthew Morrin. “This fund will help to support them when they are most in need and vulnerable. This support may be the difference that enables them to stay enrolled and ultimately complete their degree.”
