UMFK Welcomes New Athletic Director

Carly Flowers athethic director at UMFKThe University of Maine at Fort Kent is excited to announce the arrival of their new athletic director, Carly Flowers. Ms. Flowers comes to UMFK from Grayson College in northern Texas.

“I’m very thankful for this opportunity,” said Ms. Flowers. “I really liked the atmosphere of UMFK when I visited; everyone was so kind. I look forward to building relationships on campus and in the community as well as leading UMFK’s athletics program.”

“Ms. Flowers comes to UMFK with extensive experience in coaching at universities large and small,” said UMFK President Dr. Deb Hedeen. “She is very student-focused as well as an experienced academic advisor, which well tie in nicely for this position.”

Ms. Flowers began her career as an assistant coach at Otterbein University in Ohio. She then moved to Taft College to be an associate professor in the kinesiology department as well as the sports information coordinator. At Taft, Flowers was also the Head Women’s Basketball Coach for four years before moving to Grayson College to be an academic success coach.

Bringing a wide variety of experiences to the role, Ms. Flowers will be in a unique position to assist coaching staff as well as help athletes be successful in the classroom. She hopes to guide athletes into a full season of competition and provide them opportunities to improve on and off the court.

“As we look to grow UMFK Athletics program, we want to focus on academic excellence, making an impact in the community and preparing our student athletes for success in life,” said Ms. Flowers.

Ms. Flowers began at UMFK on July 12th.
