Minds, Methods and Medium on exhibit at UMFK Blake Library Gallery

The University of Maine at Fort Kent's Blake Library Gallery is featuring, Minds, Methods and Mediums, the work of students in Therese L. Provenzano's Art 200 Fundamentals of Art-Drawing class from the spring 2015 semester. The gallery will display the exhibition through Tuesday, June 30.

Art 200 Fundamentals of Art-Drawing is a hands-on introductory course in the practical use of art and design. Provenzano gave students the opportunity to develop skills and techniques using graphite, charcoal, pastels and watercolor while working from observation and imagination.

Provenzano said, “The benefit of taking such a course is to develop creative problem solving skills, acquire an understanding of an artist's intentions, and form an appreciation for the art making process. Emphasis is placed on learning the basic visual elements that make a work of art be characteristically strong.”

Student Alisha Cote said, “When we were told to concentrate on the negative shape. It is as though a light bulb turned on in my brain.”

Max Jandreau, said, “Art, as a whole, is a gateway into one's mind. Art allows us to come together despite our differences, and for a brief or extended moment realize that we are all the same happy, hopeful individuals trying to make the world a better place.”

Aurora Jerkins said, “The Mannequin Observed” made me focus heavily on proportion and implied mass to make it look real.”

Katie Pinette stated, “What one might look at and think it is impossible can come to realize if you just try that it is possible.”

Isabella Dunnells shared, “When you use values your drawing becomes beautiful. I really enjoy art. Practicing art helps me cope with stress in everyday life.”

The students represented in the exhibition are Krista Albert, Alisha Cote, Isabella Dunnells, Max Jandreau, Aurora Jerkins, Allie Macalle, Danielle Ouellette, Katie Pinette, Kody Theriault, Stacy Verrell, and Kylie Webster.
