UMFK is the only Maine campus to make the list.

The cost of earning a bachelor's degree has increased 1,200 percent over the past three decades, according to a 2012 Bloomberg report. UMFK officials state that the school has been able to limit the skyrocketing costs by offering courses online.

Through the RuralU and Early College programs, Maine high school students can achieve even greater savings and begin their college career with two years of college credit.

UMFK Interim President John Murphy said, “UMFK is excited to offer both online and Early College courses which allow students to complete their degree sooner and therefor with less debt.”

According to the CollegeChoice.net writers, “The University of Maine at Fort Kent offers 12 online bachelor's degrees, including accounting, healthcare administration, and RN to BSN.”

The university utilizes more than 50 online instructors and tuition for online bachelor's degrees starts at $330 per credit.

The researchers based their rankings on total cost, number of online degrees the university offers, and only considered schools with the highest form of regional accreditation. They aggregated their data from the websites of the universities, and from a variety of publications such as U.S. News and World Report and the National Center for Educational Statistics.
