UMFK Nursing and Behavioral Science Program Sponsor Conference on the Integration of Physical and Behavioral Healthcare in Maine

University of Maine at Fort Kent sponsors, “Bringing the Pieces Together,” a day-long conference being held on Friday, January 11, 2019, in Nadeau Hall. 

The conference will focus on a variety of healthcare topics; all of which exemplify the importance of the integration of physical and behavioral healthcare in Maine.  Speakers and panelists at the conference will speak on subjects such as personal responsibility for health and wellbeing, behavioral health in an era of legal cannabis, the intersection of suicide and opioid deaths, and medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorders.  The conference is open to all practitioners in physical healthcare, behavioral healthcare and those interested in the topic. 

Conference organizers are two members of the University of Maine at Fort Kent faculty.  Shawn Graham, Assistant Professor Human Services and Program Coordinator for Behavioral Science Programs and Sandy Pelletier, Assistant Professor of Nursing have joined forces with a number of experts in their field to bring this conference to the region. 

“From a healthcare perspective, this professional development program will allow for regional healthcare providers the opportunity to gain an awareness of the effect stress, recovery, and suicide have on a person's state of well-being,” said Professor Pelletier.

Professor Graham emphasizes the importance of supporting the strong relationship UMFK’s Behavioral Science and Nursing program have with local organizations.  “We are excited to be developing this professional development opportunity,” said Graham. “This is one way we can support the strong relationships we have with area organizations and continue to work closely with them to meet the needs of our communities.”

The conference fee is $50 per person, which includes lunch and a five-hour contact hour certificate for all attendees.  Pre-registration for the January 11 event and payment must be completed online at the following link https://www.umfk.edu/conferences/pieces-together/ [link no longer active].  Registration deadline is January 4, 2019.
