UMFK professor Dr. Terry L. Murphy exhibit on display at Blake Library Gallery

Dark Matter: An Allegory in Relief, a premier exhibition by University of Maine at Fort Kent professor of English and Education, Dr. Terry L. Murphy will be on display at the Blake Library Gallery through the end of February.

“This exhibit is conceptually representational. The overall theme is an indictment on capitalism and of its impact on society, on humanity, and on nature. Viewers should be prepared for some disturbing images. (Note: there are no sacred cows harbored; there are no bleeding hearts.) The creator has assumed an alter persona: The Messenger.” When visitors enter the gallery area, they are entering an allegory. There are the visual pieces that are obvious, but there is 'more than meets the eye.' The sculptures are symbolically representative, each having more than one layer of meaning.

Dr. Murphy advises viewers to "Stop/Look; Look/Think; Suspend Judgment; Think/Think; and Talk/Talk."

Dr. Murphy discovered her hidden talent as an artist through a summer course taught by the former UMFK professor of art, Wendy Kindred. Dr. Murphy's first exhibit was a collection of paintings entitled “Learning to Fly.”
