Eight Strings and a Whistle is an exciting and innovative flute, viola, and cello trio. It has captivated audiences throughout the Northeast since 1998. Winner of the Artists International Special Presentation Award, the trio performed its critically-acclaimed New York Debut at Merkin Concert Hall in May, 2003. Eight Strings and a Whistle has established itself as an innovative and exciting ensemble on today's concert scene.

Flutist Suzanne Gilchrest, violist Ina Litera, and cellist Matthew Goeke draw on their exceptional artistry to create the unique voice of this ensemble. The Trio has championed Baroque, Classical, and Romantic repertoire and collaborates regularly with living composers, premiering, and work shopping their pieces throughout the concert season. This recent diverse group of composers includes Scott Brickman, Robert Davidson, Peter Köszeghy, and Randall Snyder.

Eight Strings and a Whistle reveals the diversity of styles within the old and the new, and unearths a wealth of colorful textures.

Recent appearances include performances at the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York City, the La Grua Center and Joyful Noise!, Concert Series in Connecticut, New Jersey City University, and Machias Bay Concerts in Maine. In 2011, they performed at the UMFK Foundations' annual dinner fundraiser.

Eight Strings and a Whistle also have performed at the Bar Harbor Music Festival, L'Association Cultural et Historique du Mont Carmel in Lille, the Eastport Arts Center, and on Maine Public Radio's live performances series with host Suzanne Nance, University of Maine, and the Oceanside Meadows Institute for the Arts and Sciences in Prospect Harbor.
