Coming from the deep local talent of the St. John Valley and including acts from across the state and Canada, musicians and the University of Maine at Fort Kent are preparing for the region's largest jam session and house party for music lovers at its annual Fiddlers' Jamboree on Sunday, February 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. in UMFK's Fox Auditorium.

The jamboree brings together talented musicians for an afternoon of impromptu performances that bring out the best from the participants. Rising stars, as well as seasoned veterans take their turn. The event is an opportunity for people to strut their stuff whether they play an instrument, sing, or dance.

Last year's event drew more than 50 entertainers from Aroostook County, southern Maine, the St. John Valley, and western New Brunswick. The talent that lives in this community will astound the people who attend the celebration. The success of the jamboree increases every year, and attendance continues to grow with peoples' feet stomping and cameras rolling.

UMFK continues to preserve and foster an appreciation of the Acadian and Franco-American heritage and culture by hosting annual events, such as the Fiddlers' Jamboree and the Sucrerie. The latter event, which opens the maple season with tasty treats and a traditional Acadian meal, occurs this year on Thursday, March 19 from 11 to 1 p.m. in Nowland Hall.

Organizers for the jamboree continue to invite and encourage fiddlers, guitarists, other acoustic musicians, and singers to take part in the Sunday afternoon jam session.

The doors will open to the public at 12:30 p.m.

The event is open to the public. Admission is $5 for adults. Children 12 and under may attend free.

Interested participants should contact in advance of the jamboree, Susan Tardie at (207) 834-7557 or 1-888-879-8635 ext. 7557 or Warren Harvey, at (207) 834-3939.
