The University of Maine at Fort Kent's Blake Library Gallery is featuring, Drawings and Paintings Interpreted the work of students in Therese L. Provenzano's Art 200 Fundamentals of Art-Drawing class. The exhibition will be on display through January 12.

Art 200 Fundamentals of Art-Drawing is a hands-on introductory course in the practical use of art and design. Students were given the opportunity to develop skills and techniques using graphite, charcoal, pastels and watercolor while working from observation and imagination.

Provenzano said, “The benefit of taking such a course is to develop creative problem solving skills, acquire an understanding of an artist's intentions, and form an appreciation for the art making process. Emphasis is placed on learning the basic visual elements that make a work of art be characteristically strong.”

Morgan Dumond shared, "Art provides unique outlets for self-expression and conveys a point of view that stimulates cognitive thinking for the viewer."

Joe McCloskey commented, “Art is a form of expression which therefore has a lot to do with communication which is a key component of successful human interaction.”

Paige Gillespie experienced and shared, "Trust your instincts."

While Art 200 is a visual arts course students can take to meet his or her Arts & Humanities general education requirement, some students have decided on further art study by taking an upper level art course next semester. Some students have also decided on becoming an Art Minor.

The students represented in the exhibition are: Joshua Allarie, Krista Beaupre, Amber Devoe, Morgan Dumond, Paige Gillespie, Heather Krook, Breana LaPointe, Steve Jizong Ma, Joe McCloskey, Abby Naborowsky, Desi Peddle, Bailey Pelletier, Brittany Pelletier, Jake Rioux, and Sofie Sawyer-Johnson.

The exhibition may be viewed during regular Blake Library hours. For more information, please contact Gallery Curator Sofia Birden at 834-7527.
