UMFK Blake Library Exhibit "Learning Creative Engagement, Fundamentally"

The University of Maine at Fort Kent Blake Library Gallery is featuring “Learning Creative Engagement, Fundamentally,” the work of students in Thérèse L. Provenzano’s Art 200 Fundamentals of Art-Drawing class. The exhibition will be on display through Wednesday, February 27th.

“Fundamentals of Art-Drawing” serves as an understanding of the language and methods used in a work of art through practical application of materials in observing objects or imagining reality. The course also serves as a foundation for art appreciation and the development of concepts for further art making and study.

Provenzano said, “The benefit of taking this course supports the University of Maine at Fort Kent’s educational model for their students, “Life at UMFK.” The “L” in Life represents Learning. The “I” for Innovate. The “F” for Find. The “E” for Engage.  

Students are encouraged to innovate, find and engage with their materials and the process of making art for each assignment. The course begins with assignments anchored in essentials or requirements. Then, it challenges the student to think more creatively. Life, in of itself is not linear. We are often challenged to find new solutions to problems where we need to rethink our approach to find a new outcome. My method of teaching encourages students to experience approach determines the outcome and the problem-solving nature of the art process serves as a basis for creative thinking applicable to any discipline or career path.”

The students represented in the exhibition are Kennedy Ashby, Ellen Borges, Matthew Carroll, Kyle Denning, Tyler Desjardins, Desiree Dumais, Brooke Gallagher, Esse Hammel, Keara McCrum, Tolu Oyeniyi, Kelly Paradis, Isabel Sanclemente, Jordan Townsend, and Sam Warner.
