University of Maine at Fort Kent Professor of Music and Education, Dr. Scott Brickman has had a variety of professional activities materialize this year.
Young wordsmiths will test their skills next month when the University of Maine at Fort Kent’s Office of Community Education hosts the Northern District (Aroostook County) Scripps National Spelling Bee competition for middle school students on Thursday, February 27th at 6:30 p.m. in the Nadeau Hall Conference Room (in case of inclement weather on the 27th, the competition will be held Friday, February 28th at 6:30 in Nadeau Hall).
The University of Maine at Fort Kent is proud to announce their Dean’s List for the fall 2019 semester. This list includes full-time and part-time students.
The University of Maine at Fort Kent Blake Library Gallery is featuring the work of students in Thérèse L. Provenzano’s Art 200 Fundamentals of Art-Drawing class and Art 451 Painting class. The exhibition will be on display through Wednesday, December 18th.
University of Maine at Fort Kent Professor of Music and Education, Dr. Scott Brickman, recently returned from Europe where two of his newest compositions premiered. On October 31 at the Church of Mary Magdalene in L’viv, Ukraine, Brickman’s Dies Irae, a portion of the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass, was performed by soprano soloist Christina Makar, with Ferdinando Nazzaro conducting the Sacrarium Chorus and Lemberg Sinfonietta. This is the third such work of Brickman’s that Ms. Makar has sang since December, 2018.
The University of Maine at Fort Kent is proud to announce they were recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation to purchase four new Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to place throughout campus.
In honor of STEAM Week, Project>Login and the University of Maine at Fort Kent’s Rural U Early College Program are excited to announce a new computer science course for the spring 2020 semester. As part of an effort to increase equitable access to more students and reach students in rural parts of Maine, this new computer science course offering will be available to Maine high school students as part of the Rural U Early College program. Students will be able to sign up through their guidance office at their high schools.
The University of Maine at Fort Kent recently wrapped up the month of October with a “Pink Dance” put on by members of the Student Senate to raise awareness and funds for cancer care.
The University of Maine at Fort Kent Forestry Program and St. John Valley Technology Center (SJVTC) have entered into a unique agreement that will focus on providing graduates of SJVTC’s forestry program the opportunity to achieve a degree in a shortened period of time.
The University of Maine at Fort Kent has not only made the Washington Monthly’s annual Bachelor’s College Rankings, but has moved up by 21 spots. UMFK was also named 38th out of 250 colleges in the publication’s “Best Bang for the Buck: Northeast” rankings.
