Fiddler Lisa Ornstein and guitarist André Marchand will perform at the University of Maine's Fort Kent Fox Auditorium on Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m. Admission to the concert is $15 per person.

Tickets are available in Fort Kent through the Acadian Archives acadiennes on the University of Maine at Fort Kent campus and at Paradis Shop ‘N Save.

Ornstein and Marchand are virtuosos of Quebec's rich heritage of traditional vocal and instrumental music. The music they make is equal parts mastery and passion, mining the incredible diversity of French-Canadian and Acadian folk tradition. Lisa and André have gained international reputations as two of the most influential and admired players of their generation.

Lisa Ornstein has the rare gift of being both a highly respected scholar and virtuoso player. She spent many years immersing herself in the study, performance, and teaching of traditional French-Canadian and Acadian fiddling, both in Quebec and internationally.

Orstein's talent for creating compelling informed and inventive fiddle accompaniments for traditional Québécois songs have made her a sought-after collaborator with some of Quebec's finest musicians. The 2008 release of La traverse miraculeuse, which Lisa participated as both performer and arranger, won the 2009 Association québécoise de l'industrie du disque, du spectacle et de la video awards (Quebec's Grammy) for best traditional music album.

André Marchand is one of the great living legends of Québécois music. André is a founding member of Quebec's award-winning traditional music ensemble La Bottin Souriante, with whom he played from 1976 to 1990 throughout North America and Europe.

Marchand was leading member of several of Quebec's finest folk music groups, including the province's premier a capella ensemble, Les Charboinniers de l'enfer and Les Mononcles

His irresistible voice, inspired vocal and instrumental compositions, and inventive accompaniment style on guitar and foot percussion have defined Québécois folk music for three decades.
