The University of Maine at Fort Kent Foundation raised more than $16,600 -- a record amount -- at its eighth annual spring dinner/performance held on Saturday evening, April 13 on the UMFK campus. Proceeds from the fundraising event help support endowed scholarships, faculty and student research, and special projects not budgeted for in the University's operating budget.

The annual event included a social hour and a five-course gourmet dinner in Nowland Hall. The dinner was catered and donated by ARAMARK food services.

During its dinner ceremonies, the Foundation presented its annual faculty research award to UMFK Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies, Dr. Steven B. Selva. Dr. Selva is a world-renowned lichenologist, who has established an active research program in lichenology since arriving on campus in 1976.

Outgoing Foundation President, Carolyn Bouchard, ceremoniously handed over the gavel to President-Elect, James Roy, who will take his seat as president at the Foundation's August meeting. The Foundation also introduces its newest directors, who will take their seats at the August meeting. They are: Sharon Daigle-Gerrish, Division/Marketing Manager, Maine Potato Growers; Sonya Dechene, Credit & Brand Manager, Daigle Oil Company; Alan M. Michaud, Senior Vice President and Partner, United Insurance; and Don R. Raymond, retired Registrar, UMFK.

Following dinner, musical entertainment for the evening was provided by New York City jazz vocalist, Vicki Burns. Ms. Burns was accompanied by virtuoso guitarist/composer/producer Saul "Zebulon" Rubin. The evening ended on a sweet note with a post-performance dessert and champagne reception in the Nadeau Hall Teleconference Room.
