The University of Maine at Fort Kent and the Greater Fort Kent Area Chamber of Commerce will combine forces for their respective Homecoming and Scarecrow Festival celebrations for the weekend of September 13, 14, and 15 in Fort Kent.

The University of Maine at Fort Kent has been selected as a College of Distinction for the 2013/2014 academic year. UMFK is one of only 200 colleges and universities, nationwide, to be included in the distinguished listing. It is the third consecutive year that UMFK has received the College of Distinction honor.

The University of Maine at Fort Kent and the Acadian Archives Acadiennes will welcome well-known Acadian folklorist and historian, Georges Arsenault, to campus on Thursday, September 12 at 7 p.m. in the Grindle conference room. Arsenault will give an illustrated talk on two ancient and popular Acadian winter celebrations -- Mardi Gras and Mi-Carême.

The Acadian Archives/Archives acadiennes at the University of Maine at Fort Kent held its first Acadian Institute, a French immersion program for teachers of French, June 23-29.

The University of Maine at Fort Kent Alumni Association will honor three individuals who have made an impact on the campus community and society, at its annual Alumni and Friends Banquet to be held this year on Saturday, September 14 in Nowland Hall.

The University of Maine at Fort Kent Foundation has approved funding for three grant proposals from University departments, all of which celebrate the Franco-American cultural heritage of the St. John Valley. The Foundation approved the proposals for a total of $5,425 at its annual board meeting earlier this month.
