UMFK Foundation presents its fall performance by the Wednesday Evening Fiddlers

There is something in the heart that yearns to hear the fiddle, and the University of Maine at Fort Kent Foundation will satisfy that longing at its fall 2015 event when the Wednesday Evening Fiddlers play for the community on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the University's Fox Auditorium.

Fiddle music from many artists and traditions ensure the event will entertain people of all ages and backgrounds.

UMFK's Rural U Launches Mobile App
August 27, 2015

Rural U, the University of Maine at Fort Kent's early college and dual enrollment program, has launched a free mobile app for use by its students and high school partners. The app, designed over the last year by Sephone Interactive Media of Bangor, is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. The app will allow Rural U staff to do push notifications about important dates and processes that will appear on student and partner calendars and to send documents and training materials to Rural U students throughout the State of Maine that they can access on their mobile phones and tablets. The app also provides opportunities for Rural U students to have a little fun and “brag” about their participation in the program. Students will be able to take selfies, decorate them with college related digital designs, and post them to a new Rural U Facebook page. The program staff plans to hold contests for creative photos, writing, etc. that can be uploaded to the Facebook page from the app.

"Montell the Monster" September exhibit at the UMFK Blake Library

A mischievous, wee imp named Montell will take over the Blake Library Gallery at the University of Maine at Fort Kent during the month of September.

“Montell the Monster: A Destructive Work in Progress” is the brain-child of author/artist Melanie Daigle. Selected frames from Daigle's children's book “Montell the Monster: A Tale of Monstrous Forgiveness” will be on display in the gallery. The exhibit will include interactive mirrors and “live examples” of the main character's destructive force. Daigle also will showcase pages from the book-in-progress, which she said she has been working on for “way too many years.”

UMFK offers new degree in cybersecurity this fall
August 18, 2015

Cybersecurity academic programs in Maine originated from UMFK, and this most northern campus continues to lead the effort. The Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity is available through a partnership between the university campuses of Augusta, Fort Kent, Orono, and Machias, and will incorporate a multidisciplinary perspective through a combination of computer science, communications, and ethics courses, with a post-baccalaureate option.
