Six months before the event, Brickman had sent his music to the KLK NewMusic for String Orchestra. KLK NewMusic is a group of musicians, composers and musicologists who organize events, master classes, composition projects, and recording sessions in a continuous exchange of collaboration between all participants, according to their website. The University of Maine at Fort Kent music professor was on sabbatical for the spring semester and preparing for a conference in Lithuania focusing on music technology when he received notice that the KLK NewMusic organizers had chosen one of his compositions for Ukrainian event. “I happened to be going to that area of the world for a conference,” said Brickman. Because the two locations are so close, he decided to attend the conference and the concert.

The University of Maine at Fort Kent's Blake Library and the Acadian Archives/Archives acadiennes have combined their gallery spaces to welcome "Thoreau's Maine Woods: A Journey in Photographs with Scot Miller," a traveling exhibition developed and produced by The Harvard Museum of Natural History in collaboration with Scot Miller. The University of Maine at Fort Kent Blake Library Gallery will feature “Drawing Concepts“ the work of students in Therese L. Provenzano's Art 351: Drawing class. The exhibition will be on display through Thursday, January 28.Art 351: Drawing is a hands-on upper level studio course students' take as a requirement for an art minor or purely out of interest. Community members also can enroll. The main course objective is for students to investigate drawing as form and as means of expressing ideas.
