UMFK Adjunct Faculty Thérèse L. Provenzano selected to participate in "Down East" magazine's third annual Art of Giving

Thérèse L. Provenzano is proud to announce that she has been selected to participate in Down East magazine's third annual Art of Giving. As part of the Art of Giving, Provenzano's painting, Buckwheat No. 8 Cutouts, Red and Purple is featured in the July issue of Down East magazine. Her painting will be raffled off with three other Maine works of art to raise funds for Maine Farmland Trust and three additional community organizations chosen by the other participating artists. Down East's Art of Giving Gala will be held Thursday, September 1 from 5:30-9 p.m. at The Landing at Pine Point located at 353 Pine Point Rd in Scarborough. Thriving in Place - UMFK Nursing Students Gain Real World Experience

Out of all fifty states in America, Maine is the state with the oldest population. Maine also has one of the highest rates of disability in the nation (according to a 2013 press release by the Maine Health Access Foundation). To tackle those issues, and to help people live independently, the Maine Health Access Foundation began awarding “Thriving in Place” grants in 2013. As much as $320,000 worth of the “Thriving in Place” grants will be used by eight organizations to help people stay happy and healthy at home, rather than having to be placed in a hospital or other kind of health institution (according to the same press release).

Dr. Albert, who chairs the Aroostook District Coordinating Council (DCC) for Public Health, works with Stacy Boucher, Maine Center for Disease Control (CDC) District Liaison, a steering committee, and DCC colleagues to lead, promote, and build upon a culture of public health in Aroostook County.
