Dr. Steven Gammon, vice president for academic affairs at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, has announced that 254 full-time and 193 part-time students are named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2017 semester.
University of Maine at Fort Kent nursing students graduated from the program, with 54 of them attending the 33rd Annual UMFK Nursing Pinning Ceremony on Friday, May 12th at the Fox Auditorium on the UMFK campus. UMFK nursing students who were enrolled in the Partners in Nursing Education Program, with eighteen of them attending the first nursing pinning ceremony that was held on May 11th at the Jewett Hall Auditorium on the University of Maine at Augusta campus.
The University of Maine at Fort Kent Summer Theatre, now entering its tenth season, is pleased to announce open auditions for its summer 2017 production of “Hamlet,” by William Shakespeare. Auditions for this exciting classic will take place on Thursday, June 15th and Friday, June 16th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Fox Auditorium on the University campus. Interested performers can show up anytime between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. You only need to attend one of the two available sessions. Auditions also are available by appointment.
The University of Maine at Fort Kent graduating seniors received their degrees at the 135th commencement exercises held at UMFK on May 13. University President John N. Short presided over the ceremony that conferred 212 baccalaureate degrees and 28 associate degrees.
Also at the commencement ceremony, recently retired Vice President of Administration John D. Murphy was honored with the University’s Distinguished Service Award for his many years of service to the campus community.
Astronaut Dr. George Nelson addressed the graduating class, providing words of wisdom and life lessons.
Julia DeStefano, senior class president, addressed her fellow graduates. DeStefano is from North Monmouth, Maine and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Baccalaureate degrees were awarded to students in Arts and Sciences (18); Behavioral Science (11); Biology (7); Business (17); Computer Applications (3); Cyber Security (1); Elementary Education (1); English (4); Environmental Studies (2); Nursing (139); Public Safety Administration (8); and French (1).

Awards and scholarships were presented to deserving University of Maine at Fort Kent students at the senior class banquet and awards convocation held on Friday, May 12 in the UMFK Sports Center.
The University of Maine at Fort Kent Blake Library Gallery is featuring “Minds Draw Meaning and Methods,” the work of students in Therese L. Provenzano’s Art 200: Fundamentals of Art-Drawing class and Art 351: Drawing class. The exhibition will be on display through May 2nd.
University of Maine at Fort Kent and the TRIO Student Support Services program held their ninth annual recognition banquet on April 18, to honor students involved in the TRIO program. UMFK President Dr. John N. Short provided the welcome address.
