UMFK hosts Homecoming during the Scarecrow Festival activities September 17-19

The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host its annual Homecoming celebration for the weekend of September 17-19, 2021 in Fort Kent.

The three, fun-filled days will feature many events, including soccer and volleyball games, alumni soccer game, alumni brunch, ribbon cutting, and the first-ever AcadiAuction and Soirée.

Friday, September 17

The UMFK Homecoming kick-off will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a formal ribbon cutting of the newly built Enrollment & Advancement Center. Tours given of the new building and individuals are required to wear a mask. This event is free and open to the public.

Saturday, September 18

At 8:00 a.m. a co-ed alumni soccer game vs. UMFK student athletes on the Alumni Memorial Field. First 20 players get a free t-shirt. This event is free and alumni can register by emailing Oniqueky Samuels at oniqueky.samuels@maine.edu.

Spectators should wear green, gold, and or tiger prints when watching the games on campus.

The campus store will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shoppers will receive a 10% discount.

The annual Greater Fort Kent Area Chamber of Commerce’s Scarecrow Festival parade will step off at 10 a.m. from the courthouse on Market Street to Main Streets up to Pleasant Street to the UMFK President’s residence, Acadia House. This year’s parade theme is “Hometown Heroes.” UMFK graduates from the class of 2020 and 2021 are encouraged to participate in the parade. Do not forget to bring your mortarboard and chord. Line-up is at 9:15 a.m.

Back on campus at the Sports Center, the Lady Bengals will play two volleyball games, one at Noon and one at 2 p.m. against Husson University Eagles. UMFK will have swag giveaways during the game.

The Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place at Nowland Hall. Social begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. This year’s ceremony will honor 2020 Inductees: Bill Ashby, Jennifer Colpitts, Jimmy Lopez, and Jarryd Phillips. During the evening ceremony, Wilda Kelly will be presented the Floyd “Red” Powell Award, which is given to an individual who has made a significant contribution and/or enhancement of UMFK Athletics. Sunday, September 19

The Alumni Association will bestow honors on Outstanding Alumni Award recipient Norman Martin (Class of 1967) and the heroic role educators have played during the pandemic, UMFK alumni in attendance and who work in education will also be recognized.at the UMFK Alumni Brunch. The brunch will begin at 11 a.m. and be held at Nadeau Hall. The event is open to the entire UMFK community, and to the public. Tickets priced at $10 per person. At 1 p.m., you will see the Lady Bengals soccer team in action on Alumni Memorial Field against Central Maine Community College Mustangs. The Bengal men will take on CMCC at 3 p.m. GO BENGALS!!!! UMFK swag giveaways and onsite concessions going on during both games.
