Under certain circumstances, tuition may be partially or fully waived for University employees, high school students, and war orphans. Information for specific waiver programs is provided below. This program provides free tuition to certain foster children, and adopted children/wards under subsidy from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. The student must be attending a Maine public college/university.
This program provides free tuition to certain children of firefighters, law enforcement officers or emergency medical services persons killed in the line of duty. The student must be attending a Maine public college/university.
The Board of Trustees authorizes the waiver of tuition for persons sixty-five and over who wish to register for undergraduate courses on a credit or non-credit basis at any campus of the University of Maine System. Tuition may be waived for persons qualifying under MRSA 37 B, Chapter 7, Section 505, as amended 2002, P.L. c.662.
Waivers covering tuition and mandatory fees are available for members of the Passamaquoddy and Penobscot Tribes and other persons who have resided in Maine for at least one year and who have at least one parent or grandparent on the census of a North American Native American tribe or with a band number of the Micmac or Malacite Tribes. In addition, room and board charges are subsidized for those eligible students residing in University residence facilities.
Native American Scholarship Program funds when combined with other forms of assistance provided cannot exceed total costs of education. Additional qualifications may apply.
