Park Ranger, Allagash Wilderness Waterway
A day in the life of an Allagash Wilderness Waterway Park Ranger is always exciting and different. I do many different things from maintaining campsites to teaching the history of this historic waterway to visitors. I am 68 miles in the woods above Greenville for nine days at a time in my own cabin. It is a rewarding job and I feel like I’m a part of something bigger. The classes I took as a conservation law and environmental studies student helped prepare me for the career path I am now on. Working in the Allagash helped introduce me to, and be a part of, other state agencies such as the Maine Warden Service and Maine Forest Rangers. UMFK’s close proximity to the Allagash introduced me to this hidden treasure in the North Maine Woods, along with staff and field experience gained during our trips abroad; UMFK prepared me well for the rewarding career I have chosen!
