2016 Young Outstanding Alumni Kim Parent

Kim Parent attended Dalhousie University and earned a Bachelor of Arts with an advanced major in political science. Then attended UMFK graduating with a Bachelor of University Studies in elementary education and is a certified K-8 teacher. Kim works as a community outreach coordinator for the Power of Prevention and Aroostook Substance Abuse Prevention Programs at Cary Medical Center in Caribou, Maine.

Kim is involved in many civic and community organizations, which include the Cary Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary; she is the current UMFK Alumni Association Board treasurer and a director on the Crossroads Board.  Kim is a member of the Caribou Assembly of God Church, where she is active in special music, and its Youth Group.  Kim has participated in many local and state pageants as a contestant, judge, emcee and organizer. Kim is National Ms. 2015 and the director of the Greater Miss St. John Valley Pageant.  Kim has participated in many local talent shows and community events, including Northern Star, Loring Job Corps’ Evening with the Stars, the Cary Family Talent Show, Relay for Life, and the Red Cross Hero’s Breakfast.  

In her spare time, Kim enjoys knitting baby blankets for the Cary Medical Center nursery.  In the past two years, Kim has completed more over 1,300 hours of community service and received the Gold Level Presidential Service Award, as well as the Melanie Dansko Community Service Award.

Kim resides in Caribou with her husband, Jason and their two children, Christopher and Kallee.
